Women's Basketball Grabs an Important Victory Over the Oilers

CANTON – The Malone University women's basketball team closed out a weekend of Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play on Saturday afternoon by hosting the University of Findlay Oilers.

The Pioneers built up a seven-point lead by halftime, and then held off the Oilers in the second half to secure the 72-58 win.

THE GAME
The Pioneers and the Oilers traded baskets for the first five minutes of the game until Malone went on a 6-0 run during the last five minutes of the first quarter that was capped off by a jumper by Nataley Armstrong with six seconds left in the quarter.

The Oilers did not back down and they went on a 9-2 run early in the second quarter to make the game tied at 21-all.

Emma Kallas would convert on an and-one at the 07:31 mark to give the Pioneers back the advantage.

With 0:07 left, Brooklyn Troyer would convert on a shot beyond the arc to make it 37-30 heading into halftime.

Malone came hot out of the locker room, going on a 9-0 run to give them a double-digit lead.

The Pioneers would obtain a 60-41 lead after Brinn Hunt grabbed a rebound from her own shot and put it back in, giving Malone their largest lead of the night.

THE DETAILS
Sophomore Brooklyn Troyer and Erin Kaufman were the game's leading scorers with 14 points. Kaufman was 4-6 from the field and had seven rebounds. Troyer had a career-high four assists.

Alexis Hutchison finished with 13 points and a team-high five assists.

Emma Kallas closed out the double-digit scoring with 11 points. She was 4-8 from the field.
 

WHAT'S NEXT
The Pioneers will host Lake Erie College on Thursday night. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
