MIDLAND, Mich. -- The Malone University volleyball team began the final weekend of the 2022 regular season on the road Friday night. 

The Pioneers traveled for a rematch with the newest member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, Northwood University. 

Unfortunately the Timberwolves offensive attack proved to be too much for the Pioneers to overcome as the home team came away with a 3-0 win.

HIGHLIGHTS
In a match that could go a long way in determining the postseason fate of the Pioneers, Malone came out of the gate strong in the opening set. 

MU scored the first four points of the night unanswered. 

It was not until later when Northwood answered with their own 4-0 run that the Timberwolves grabbed their first lead of the night at 8-7. 

Unfortunately, when NU broke an 8-8 tie just a couple of points later, they never relinquished the lead. Ultimately the Timberwolves took the opening set 25-17. 

The Pioneers were down early on in the second set, but rallied back. A kill from Grace Rosko cut Northwood's lead down to 13-10. 

However, NU quickly answered with a 5-0 run that gave them the momentum to pull away for a 25-20 set two win. 

Another big run for the home team proved to be the difference in the final set. 

Molly Bullion's service ace followed by a kill from Kristen Hankins again cut Northwood's lead down to 13-10. 

The Timberwolves scored nine of the next eleven points to grab control of the set. 

Eventually NU completed the 3-0 sweep of Malone with a 25-14 win in the final set.

CC Gurney's seven kills paced Malone's offensive attack. 

Molly Bullion led the Pioneers with 18 assists. That number pushes her out to team-high 513 on the season.

WHAT'S NEXT
The 2022 regular season comes to a close tomorrow evening as Malone will be on the road at Hillsdale College for a 5:00 p.m. match.
