Malone Defeats Seton Hill in Their Home Opener

CANTON – On Wednesday night, the Malone University women's basketball team hosted Seton Hill for their home opener.

The Pioneers battled back and forth the majority of the game as the Griffins maintained the lead most of the game. However, Malone pulled away at the end of the fourth quarter.

THE GAME
The Pioneers and Seton Hill would trade baskets for the majority of the first half, but the Griffins held the lead the majority most of the time. 

To even out the game, Emma Kallas scored seven straight points to give Malone a 22-20 lead.

Seton Hill would respond by going on a 8-3 run to give them a 28-25. The Griffins led 37-32 heading into the locker room for half time.

A layup by Alexis Hutchison with 7:15 left in the third quarter cut Seton Hill's lead down to to 40-38. Although, the Griffins would maintain advantage during the rest of the third quarter.

Halfway in the fourth quarter, a shot from beyond the arc by Brinn Hunt would initiate a 7-2 run that put the Pioneers up 59-58.

Both teams continued to battle back and forth. However, Hunt again hit a crucial jumper to give Malone a 68-66 lead. 

DETAILS
Freshman Erin Kaufman led the Pioneers in scoring with 19 points and pulled down 8 total rebounds.

Senior Alexis Hutchison had 15 points, a team-high five assists and three steals.

Brinn Hunt (14) and Emma Kallas (13) all finished in double-digits for Malone offensively. Kallas also grabbed 10 rebounds, giving her a double-double for the game.

WHAT'S NEXT
The women's basketball will continue their home stand in Osborne Hall on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off against the Mountain Cats of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown is set for 2 pm.
