Pioneers Fall Short to Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. -- On Saturday afternoon the Malone University women's basketball team traveled to Michigan to begin a short road stint, beginning with a game against the Hillsdale College Chargers.

Hillsdale (9-5, 6-2 G-MAC) built up a 50-34 lead at halftime, and then continued to overpower the Pioneers (8-6, 4-4 G-MAC) during the rest of the second half to secure a 91-61 victory.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Malone opened up the scoring with a basket by Kelsey Swihart.

The two sides continued to trade baskets for the majority of the first quarter, but the Pioneers grabbed a 23-21 lead after Nikki Weber made good on a three-pointer near the end of the first quarter.

Holly Groff came away with a layup that gave Malone a 27-24 lead, their largest lead of the afternoon.

The Chargers answered back with a 10-0 run that put them up 34-27.

Hillsdale continued to build upon their big run, and they held a 50-34 lead back to the halftime locker room.

The Chargers reestablished their dominance during the beginning of the third quarter and never backed off.

The Pioneers fought to make a comeback effort to decrease Hillsdale's lead to 66-48 on a 9-0 run.

However, the Chargers pulled away down the stretch to secure the 91-61 victory.
