Pioneers Complete Season Sweep of Lake Erie
Wednesday night saw the Pioneers host the Storm and finish the season sweep of Lake Erie.

Holly Groff scored 11 of her 20 total points in the first quarter and brought up her scoring average to 14.6. Emma Kallas led the team defensively by pulling down six rebounds on the Storm's end of the court. Alexis Hutchison was also a defensive force as she got three steals and five defensive rebounds.

Robin Campbell dished out three assists in the effort against Lake Erie. She continues to hold the top spot in the G-MAC averaging 4.2 assists per game and fourth in Malone's all-time assists list.

As a team, Malone is third in the G-MAC for field goal percentage at 47.5% and fifth in team three-point shooting percentage – 33%. Malone is in 6th place of the GMAC in league standings.

Hardwood Series
Saturday will be the 30th all-time meeting between the Ursuline College Arrows and the Malone University Pioneers. Malone holds a solid 21-8 series lead.

However, Ursuline won the last meeting earlier this season in December by a final score of 77-70. Kallas led the offensive charge shooting 6-of-9 from the field on her way to scoring 14 points. Malone scored 21 points off the 18 turnovers they forced on Ursuline and had the advantage of bench depth – scoring 28 points to the six bench points by the Arrows.

Prior to the December loss, the Pioneers had won the last five match ups and have now gone 9-3 against the Arrows dating back to the 2016-17 season.

The latest win for Malone came in February last season in front of a home crowd and delivered a 79-58 win. Alexis Hutchison scored 12 points and pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds to finish with her first career double-double. Madison Hunter led the charge of five Pioneer double-digit scorers with 16 points.

Knowing Your Opponent
Ursuline College faced Walsh University twice this week and lost both match ups. On Monday, the Arrows found themselves down by 14 points at halftime and came out in the third quarter shooting 71% (12-of-17) and cut the deficit to two points heading into the final period. But Walsh pushed their lead and took the home victory 77-69.

Despite the Monday loss, senior Bekah Green became the fifth player in program history to reach the 1,000 career point mark with her 20 showing. Ursuline forced the Cavaliers into 18 turnovers that transitioned into 21 points for the Arrows.

On Wednesday, the two teams faced off in Pepper Pike, where the Cavaliers were able to come away with a 77-48 victory. Walsh took a 25 point lead into the final quarter of play and built it up to 31 points before closing out the 29 point victory. Sisters, Madison and Michaela Cloonan, combined for 57 points and 25 rebounds over the two games.

Looking Ahead
The Pioneers will head back on the road next week. Malone will travel to Kentucky Wesleyan College on January 27 and Trevecca Nazarene University on January 29.
