Malone Drops Close Contest at Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- After their win in Columbus, the women's basketball finished their short road stint when they traveled to Cedarville University to take on the Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets (10-5, 5-4 G-MAC) jumped out to a 33-27 halftime lead, and then held off the Pioneers (9-7, 5-5 G-MAC) in the second half to pick up a 72-69 win.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Malone opened up the game with a basket from Robin Campbell to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.

After Campbell's game opening bucket, Cedarville jumped out of the gate and held a lead most of the quarter.

With a little under a minute left in the quarter, Kyli Horn converted on a pair of free throws to put the Pioneers back up 15-14.

A 11-2 Yellow Jacket run over the first 2:56 of the second quarter allowed Cedarville to go up 25-17.

However, Malone came back with their own run that was capped off by a Nikki Weber jumper, to even up the game at 25 all.

After the opening twenty minutes of basketball, the Yellow Jackets carried a 33-27 lead into the halftime break.

Cedarville continued to maintain their lead throughout the majority of the third quarter.

Although, a jumper from Campbell with 0:17 left in the quarter allowed the Pioneers to secure a 48-46 advantage.

The Yellow Jackets scored on their opening possession of the fourth quarter to grab a 49-48 lead, but Malone quickly answered with a trey by Holly Groff.

Yet again, Cedarville went on a 8-2 run to go up 57-53.

A three-point play from Emma Kallas diminished the Yellow Jackets lead to 70-69, giving the Pioneers one more comeback chance.

Unfortunately, Cedarville was able to ice away the 72-69 win after a series of free throws.
