CANTON, Ohio -- The Malone University women's soccer team kicked off the 2021 season on Saturday afternoon by welcoming Northwood University to the newly completed competition field at the Pioneer Park facility on campus.
The match was tied 0-0 at halftime, but unfortunately for the host Pioneers, the visiting Timberwolves scored five goals in the final 45 minutes to come away with the 5-0 win.Â
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Malone's defense stood tall against Northwood's attack in the first half. The Pioneers only allowed the Timberwolves to get off six total shots. Only one of those was on goal, and
Jessica Morgan was there for the save.Â
Malone was not able to get much going on the offensive end early on.
Reagan McCourt and
Natalie Martorana each had shots on goal for MU, but both opportunities were turned away.Â
The Timberwolves broke through early in the second half with a goal in the 50th minute.
The first score ignited their offense, and Northwood went on to score four more goals over the course of the next twenty minutes to help lead them to a 5-0 victory.
PIONEER POINTS
- Alexa Langenfeld finished with a team-high two shots on goal
- Jessica Morgan turned away seven Northwood looks at goal, six of those came in the second half of play.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Pioneers head out on the road next week for what will be the first of five straight matches away from Canton.
First up is a trip to Roberts Wesleyan College on Thursday night. Kick off is set for 6:00 p.m.
