FINDLAY, Ohio -- On Saturday, the Malone University volleyball program closed out their first Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) road trip of the season with a matchup against the University of Findlay Oilers.
The Oilers (5-1, 2-0 G-MAC) continued their strong start to the 2021 season with a three set win over the Pioneers (4-7, 0-2 G-MAC) by set scores of 25-16, 25-13, 25-12.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Malone's offense started strong in the first set, as they were able to keep pace with Findlay thanks in part to timely kills from
Grace Rosko and
Anna Hopple.
Unfortunately for the Pioneers with the Oilers leading 12-10, Findlay scored the next four points of the match unanswered to move ahead 16-10.
The Oilers never looked back, eventually winning the first set 25-16.
The Pioneer offense sputtered in the second set, as Findlay's defense only surrendered six total kills on their way to a 25-13 set two win.
The Oilers got out to a quick 4-0 lead in the third set. The Oilers led by as many as 22-11, before closing out the match with a 25-12 win.
PIONEER POINTS
- Ri'Gyn Humes came away with three block solos on the afternoon, pushing her season total out to a team-high 19.0 total blocks on the year.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Pioneers are on the road again next weekend. The trip begins with a matchup at Lake Erie College on Friday. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
