Women's Soccer Falls in Regular Season Finale at Ohio Dominican; Pioneers Still Secure Spot in the G-MAC Tournament

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- On Saturday evening the Malone University women's soccer team traveled to Ohio Dominican University for the final match of the 2020-21 championship season.

Although the Pioneers (5-5-1, 4-5-1) were upended by the Panthers (6-1-2, 6-1-2) by a final score of 1-0, by virtue of their season-long performance Malone has still clinched a spot in the 2020-21 Great Midwest Women's Soccer Championship Tournament.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Both sides eased into the game in the early going with not much going on in either team's offensive end of the field. Malone's best chance at a goal came in the 20th minute, but the shot from Brooke Lindenschmidt was saved.

The MU defense was up to the task in the first half in their own right as Jessica Morgan made a pair of saves to help keep the match scoreless at halftime.

Halftime adjustments allowed ODU to turn up the intensity on offense, and the Panthers broke through for what proved to be the game's lone goal in the 76th minute.

PIONEER POINTS
  • Malone was credited with six shots in the match. Addisyn Lewis had a team-high two shots on goal.

  • As mentioned before, despite today's loss the Pioneers have still clinched a bid into the postseason for the second consecutive season.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Pioneers now await the release of the first round matchups and complete bracket for the 2020-21 Great Midwest Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The quarterfinal round is scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 24 with the top four seeds hosting the next four seeds.
