PICKERINGTON, Ohio – The Malone University men's golf team impressed at the Bill Blazer Memorial Tournament hosted by Ohio Dominican University on Saturday and ended up finishing runner-ups as a team. Malone shot a 577 (293,284) as a team in 36 holes, only behind the host school, Ohio Dominican with a 575.
Connor Curry was a star on Saturday. Curry tied for first place as an individual with a two-day total of 137, following up his one-under 71 with a six-under 66 on Saturday. The junior went bogey-free in the final 18 holes and notched a new career-low score in the process. A score of 66 is tied for the third-lowest in Malone men's golf history.
Thomas Hursey, who is ranked as an individual amongst NCAA DII golfers, won the event after a four-hole tiebreaker. Curry went two-under on the front and four-under on the back, including a clutch birdie on 18 to force the tiebreaker.
Josh Woodward brought home a top-five finish with a 143 total (71,72). Woodward was one-under on the back nine after recording a birdie on the par five 12th. Woodward showed consistency with 27 pars in the tournament, the most of any competitor.
The second-lowest score for the Pioneer scoring group on Saturday was from
David Chapman. Chapman placed 16th overall with a 36-hole score of 149 (79,70). Chapman picked up 17 spots on the leaderboard with a two-under second round. He birdied three holes out of four to go two-under on the front nine.
Scotty Brown tied for 19th place with a 150 (73,77). Brown birdied both par five's on the back nine on Saturday.
Mark Schlabach recorded four birdies on Saturday on his way to a 24th place individual finish at 154 (78,76).
Competing as an individual,
Dylan Kaufman shot a career-low 68 on Saturday to place him fourth overall. The freshman shot 142 (74,68), his lowest 36 hole score in his collegiate career. Kaufman was bogey-free in Saturday's four-under round and hit under par on three consecutive holes: the 5th through 7th.
