Campbell's Late Three Sinks Trojans

CANTON, Oh. -- The Malone University women's basketball team was back at home on Thursday night for a conference game against Trevecca Nazarene University.

The Pioneers (6-1, 2-0 G-MAC) used a big run late in the first half to carry a 42-34 lead heading into the locker room. Both continued to trade offensive scores during the majority of the second half, but Malone hit a nice shot at the end of the 4th quarter to give them the win over Trevecca Nazarene (1-8, 0-3 G-MAC).

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Malone jumped out to a 7-2 run at the beginning of the game as a result of a triple converted by Holly Groff, a layup by Robin Campbell, and a pair of free throws by Alexis Hutchison.

The Trojans quickly answered back by knocking down a pair of free throws that would give them their first lead of the night.

Alexis Hutchison scored eight points in a row to cap off a 8-2 run for the Pioneers. She connected on a good jumper with 2:53 left to play in the second quarter. Hutchison also made two consecutive three-pointers to give Malone a 37-31 lead.

Heading into the locker room for halftime, the Pioneers led Trevecca Nazarene 42-34.

Early in the third quarter, Holly Groff hit a shot beyond the arc that gave Malone their first double-digit lead of the night.

With 6:05 left in the quarter, Emma Kallas buried a jump shot after getting a defensive rebound to make it 55-42. The 13 point difference was Malone's largest lead of the night.

The Trojans tightened up their play on the defensive end of the floor, and held the Pioneers scoreless for one minute and 42 seconds to make the score 60-55.

Early in the fourth quarter, Trevecca Nazarene went on a 9-3 run that gave the Trojans back the lead.

6:32 left in the game, Robin Campbell converted a trey off the assist by Emma Kallas that put Malone back on top 67-66.

Both teams were playing spectacular defense, which resulted in both teams not putting up points on the board for two minutes and 57 seconds.

As the clock wound down and the score was tied at 72 all, Robin Campbell pulled up from deep to sink the game winning three with four seconds remaining.

Ultimately, when the final buzzer sounded, the Pioneers picked up their third win in a row by a final score of 75-72.
