Findlay Tops Malone 3-0 on Saturday Afternoon

CANTON, Ohio -- The Malone University volleyball team hosted the University of Findlay Oilers in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match on Saturday afternoon.

The Oilers (14-7, 10-3 G-MAC) scored a hard-fought 25-23 win in the opening set, and then went on to complete the sweep of the Pioneers (8-17, 3-10 G-MAC) 25-12 and 25-9.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Findlay went up 12-9 midway through the opening set, but a big run from Malone gave the Pioneers the lead.

MU's defense forced back-to-back attack errors, and then Ri'Gyn Humes followed with two service aces to put Malone up 13-12.

After the Oilers went back up 17-14, Anna Hopple put down two kills and Findlay made an attacking error to tie the game at 17-17.

The teams continued to trade points down the stretch, and three more errors by the Oilers gave Malone a 21-20 lead.

Unfortunately Findlay outscored the Pioneers 5-3 at the end of the first set to pull out the 25-23 win.

The Oilers dominated the last two sets. UF put down 14 kills on a .364 hitting percentage in set two, and 14 more kills on a .524 percentage in set three to help complete the sweep.

PIONEER POINTS
  • Anna Hopple led the offensive attack with five kills.
  • Ri'Gyn Humes put down three total blocks on the defensive side of the net.
  • Gabby Pelfrey had a team high seven assists.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Pioneers are right back at home Friday night when they host the Lake Erie College Storm. First serve from Osborne Hall is set for 7:00 p.m.
