The Malone University baseball team remains unbeaten on the young season following a 9-3 victory at Seton Hill University Saturday afternoon. The nine-inning road win over the Griffins completed a perfect 3-0 weekend for the Pioneers.
Â
Recap
Malone grabbed a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning when three straight singles, including a run-scoring base knock from
Joe Crank, and a pair of RBI groundouts from
Clay Wisner and
Evan Balzano led to a trio of tallies.
Â
Seton Hill scored once in the bottom of the frame, but the Pioneers got one right back in the fourth on a Griffin throwing error. The home team would later make it a one-score game, 4-3, with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Â
Two more Seton Hill errors, among seven in the game, a balk, and an RBI single from Wisner led to pair of pair of runs in the top of the seventh as Malone created some cushion. The Pioneers then broke the game open with three more runs in the top of the ninth as runs scored on RBI singles from Crank and Balzano and another SHU error.
Â
Crank, Wisner, and Balzano all finished with two RBI apiece.
Turner Hill singled three times and scored three runs while
Nate Cobb and
Tyson Gingerich each crossed the plate twice.
Â
Starting pitcher
Clyde Yoder, coming off an All-Conference season a year ago, struck out 10 batters over six quality innings to earn the victory. Sixth-year senior
Shawn Mills, who has missed almost all of the past three seasons with injury, pitched three scoreless frames to record his first collegiate save. He struck out six and gave up just one hit.
