Women's Basketball Gameday: What to Know for Malone vs Cedarville

CANTON, Ohio -- The Malone University women's basketball team returns home tonight as the Pioneers host Cedarville University inside Osborne Hall. 
 

MALONE-CEDARVILLE HARDWOOD SERIES

Tonight is the 51st meeting all-time between these two programs. Cedarville holds a lead in the overall series 35-15.

The two teams just played on Saturday with the Yellow Jackets picking up an 87-78 victory.

The last win for Malone came in the quarterfinal round of the 2019 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament.

Due to current local health regulations, fans are limited to just two spectators per student-athlete. These tickets are made available directly through communication with the student-athlete.

Malone University will adhere to school, local and state guidelines as it pertains to the COVID-19 pandemic. If patrons are feeling ill, we ask that you remain home.

All patrons are asked to wear a mask and social distance inside the gym. We also ask that patrons exit the building immediately following the contest.


FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE PIONEERS

  1. On Saturday Malone lost their second consecutive game of the year. The Pioneers staged a furious comeback on the road at Cedarville, but simply ran out of time in the 87-78 loss. 
  2. Holly Groff led Malone with a game-high 21 points. The redshirt-senior now sits at 973 career points, just 27 points away from the 1,000th of her Pioneer career.

  3. Sophomore Emma Kallas picked up Malone University Athlete of the Week honors on Monday. She averaged 11.5 points and 6.0 rebounds last week. She scored 13 points and pulled down a team-high 9 rebounds in Wednesday's loss to Tiffin.

  4. Madison Hunter currently leads the G-MAC in free-throw percentage. The junior is a perfect 9-9 from the line so far this year.

  5. The Pioneers enter play tonight as the third-best defensive team in the league, surrendering 77.3 points per game. 


KNOW YOUR OPPONENT

Cedarville enters tonight's matchup off of Saturday's 87-78 win over the Pioneers. The Yellow Jackets are now 3-1 on the season with their other two wins coming against the University of Findlay and Ursuline College. They are in second place in the G-MAC standings tied with Tiffin University. 

Offensively, Ashlyn Huffman is second in the conference in scoring averaging 24.3 points per game. She had a team-high 20 points in Saturday's game. As a team Cedarville is second in the G-MAC scoring 88.8 points per game. 

On the defensive end they are near the middle of the league surrendering 80.8 points per game. 


WHAT'S NEXT

The Pioneers have one more game remaining on their schedule before they break for the holidays. Malone will travel to Tiffin University on Saturday for their rematch with the Dragons. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
