Results
The Malone University men's and women's cross country teams concluded their race in Kentucky at the Louisville Cross Country Classic this morning. The men raced first and placed third overall. The women were next and finished fourth as a team. There were a total of 13 teams with the men and 16 with the women.Â
On the men's side from the 8,000-meter race, Lee University won the race with a total score of 30. In second place was Taylor University with a score of 75, followed by the Pioneers with a total score of 100. The top finisher for the Pioneers was senior Zach Fresenko, who came in 7th place with a time of 25:10.Â
Closely behind was junior Nicholas Michels, who finished 10th place in 25:15. Junior Nick Chaplik shot through the finish line with a time of 25:47, which puts him in 27th place. Demetrius Snellenberger was the first freshman to finish with a time of 26:01. This time placed him at 30th.
Freshman Max Gucker (26:20) and junior Christopher Cannon (26:23) were the final finishers for Malone who finished 37th and 40th, respectively. The time for Gucker was a whole minute and 9-second personal-record, which is a great leap in improvement.
On the women's side for the 5,000-meter race, Cedarville University (team score of 49) won with a decent stretch from Lee University (team score of 76). The Pioneer women scored a total of 107, which placed them at fourth as a team. The top finisher for Malone was senior Mackenna Curtis-Collins, who finished just seconds behind the winner of the race. Curtis-Collins finished with a time of 17:46, which awards her an impressive second-place finish.
The next Pioneer to come through the finish was senior Maria Martin, who placed 20th, with a time of 18:47. This time registers as a personal-best for Martin. Senior Eline Pinter (18:54) was close behind Martin and finished in 24th place.Â
Sophomore Ella Pumneo finished in 19:04 for 29th place, and junior Leah Metzger was right behind, finishing 32nd with a time of 19:06. Mackenzie McCarthy (19:20) and Julia Westall (19:32) finished 44th and 52nd, respectively.
