Malone Erupts for 95-63 Win over Waynesburg

The Malone University women's basketball team scored the most points in a game since 2012 with a 95-63 thrashing of Waynesburg University in a non-conference victory Wednesday night in Osborne Hall. The Pioneers, who outscored the Yellow Jackets 58-27 in the second and third quarters, shot a season-high 58.1% from the field to improve to 9-5 on the season.
 
Recap
Waynesburg, an NCAA Division III team that would fall to 2-11 with the loss, held tough in the early going and took a 14-12 lead six minutes into the contest on back-to-back three-pointers. The Pioneers responded with consecutive layups from Robin Campbell and Emma Kallas and eventually carried a 17-16 lead into the second quarter. Campbell (6-7) and Kallas (7-8) would combined to shoot 13-for-15 (86.7%) from the field during the contest.
 
Momentum shifted drastically towards Malone in the second quarter as the Pioneers broke a 20-20 deadlock with a 15-0 run highlighted by seven points from Kallas and eight by Holly Groff. Groff totaled 16 of Malone's 31 points in the quarter, to go along with four steals as the Pioneers led 48-29 at intermission.
 
Malone shot 76.9% (10-for-13) in the third quarter, beginning the frame on a 13-2 run, and finishing the quarter up 75-43. Campbell tallied 10 points in the session while Madison Hunter made all three of her shots, including a three-pointer, to help the Pioneers to the 32-point margin.
 
The Pioneer lead ballooned to as many as 41 points in the final stanza when Nikki Weber and Olivia Clark each collected their first collegiate field goals to close out a 20-5 run and cap the scoring at 95.
 
Game Highlights
-The 95 points were the most since scoring 113 versus Akron-Wayne in 2012
-Malone finished the game 36-of-62 (58.1%) from the field – the highest mark in the last two seasons.
-Of the 36 made field goals, 28 were assisted. The 28 assists were the most since that 2012 victory.
-The Pioneers knocked down 13-of-27 (48.1%) from three-point range, marking their second-best performance this season.
-Malone forced Waynesburg into 24 turnovers, tallying a season-high 16 steals.
-The Pioneer bench accounted for 44 of the 95 points.

-Holly Groff tallied 23 points (8-13 FG, 4-8 3PT, 3-4 FT), a season-high six assists, and a career-high six steals
-In just 12 minutes off of the bench, Emma Kallas totaled a career-high 17 points (7-8 FG, 2-2 3PT, 1-2 FT)
-Robin Campbell added 14 points and a pair of assists.
-Coming off of the bench for the first time this season, Alexis Hutchison (3-3 3PT) provided 11 points, four assists, and two steals.
-Jade Abdulla chipped in five assists, a steal, and a blocked shot
-Ellen Doyle blocked a pair of shots and pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

-Massillon native Anika Dansby led Waynesburg with 14 points
-Brooke Fuller totaled 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds
