Day One Recap

The Malone University swimming & diving team completed the second day of a two-day meet with Notre Dame College Saturday afternoon at the CT Branin Natatorium. Both the Pioneer men's and women's squads came back from Friday-night deficits to win the Senior Day event, creating momentum for the G-MAC/MEC Championships, which will be held in Canton on February 12-15.

Of the eight races contested on Saturday, the Pioneer women won seven while the men were victorious in five. Combining in Friday's results, the Malone women topped Notre Dame 168-126. The men edged out the Falcons 149-147.

200 Yard Medley Relay
In the first event of the day, Malone set the tone by sweeping.
Brice Dixon,
Fabian Loewe,
Caleb Cosentino, and
Ezra Ferguson teamed up to win the men's race in 1:39.79. The women's foursome of
Nicole Kenny,
Jessica Slater,
Denise Quentin, and
Alaina Hartley registered a 1:56.20 winning time.

200 Freestyle Relay
In what was the final race of the meet,
Lauren Cantor,
Denise Quentin,
Abby Reynolds, and
Macy Williams clocked 1:40.50 to win the event and post the fourth-fastest time in school history. On the men's side,
Brice Dixon,
Markus Brunzel,
Justyn Morgan and
Samuel Rigdon were second in 1:31.46.

Macy Williams posted the fastest time (1:26.90), winning by less than half of a second.
Brice Dixon (1:20.84) was second for the men.

400 Free
Nick Wertz, who swam to a pair of wins on Friday, claimed another victory. His time of 3:53.76 was less than a half second ahead of the runner-up.Â
Karly Bruce (4:35.36) placed fifth to lead the women.

50 Backstroke
Denise Quentin (29.52) earned the first of three individual race victories to go along with her two wins in the relays.
Rhett Sanford (26.60) won the men's race by a .18 margin.

50 Breaststroke
Quentin posted back-to-back wins, touching the wall first in a time of 32.52.
Fabian Loewe won the men's race with a time of 27.70.

150 Butterfly
Danielle Ward (1:37.08) cruised to another victory for the Pioneer women, winning by almost three full seconds. The men's event featured another close finish as
Rhett Sanford (1:27.89) earned a half of a second victory.

300 Individual Medley
Denise Quentin claimed win number three, finishing in 3:27.05.
Nick Wertz (3:23.15) came in third place for the men.
