Day One Results
The Malone University swimming & diving team completed the first of two days in a unique home-and-home meet at Notre Dame College Friday night. The Pioneers will next host the Falcons in the second day of competition, on Saturday at 4:00 pm at the CT Branin Natatorium in Canton.

Both Malone teams trail Notre Dame, as the women are down 76-71 and the men are behind 84-64 through day one of completion. Friday's meet featured eight events, including some uncommon distances. The Pioneer women claimed four of the eight events in the 9-4-3-2-1 scoring format, while the men were victorious in three.

400 Yard Medley Relay (11-4-2 scoring)
The Malone women's group of
Danielle Ward,
Jessica Slater,
Stephany Aeling, and
Alaina Hartley won by just over a quarter of a second in 4:23.77. The men's A Team of
Rhett Sanford,
Bradley Bowers,
Caleb Cosentino, and
Markus Brunzel finished second to the Falcons with a time of 3:54.78.

400 Freestyle Relay (11-4-2)
In the final event of the night, the Pioneer women (
Kinsey Knoch,
Isabel Swym,
Johanna Dewolf, and
Abby Reynolds) placed second in 3:55.86. The men (
Nick Wertz,
Markus Brunzel,
Cole Franklin, and
Justyn Morgan were third in their respective race with a time of 3:38.24.

In the only "normal" length event of the evening,
Markus Brunzel (22.88) and
Nicole Kenny (26.86) were each third for Malone.

300 Freestyle
Caleb Cosentino was a winner for the Pioneer men, touching the wall in 3:00.95.
Alaina Hartley was tops for the women, placing fourth in 3:29.54.

Men's distance specialist
Nick Wertz earned nearly a 12-second victory with a time of 8:14.83.
Denise Quentin led the Malone women with a second-placed finish (8:56.04).

50 Butterfly
Nick Wertz showed his versatility, winning the fly sprint in 24.72
Danielle Ward made it a sweep for Malone, winning the women's race with a time of 28.21.

150 Backstroke
Danielle Ward won the six-length event in a time of 1:39.02.
Rhett Sanford came in second in the men's race, finishing in 1:33.73.

150 Breaststroke
Denise Quentin (1:51.09) claimed a first-place finish by an eight-second margin over teammate
Jessica Slater. In the nailbiter of the evening,
Fabian Loewe (1:40.18) came in second in the men's race by a three hundredths of a second.
