Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Pioneers Open Up New Home Field with Win

Pioneers Open Up New Home Field with Win

The Malone University women's soccer team defeated Felician University on Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-0. The Pioneers start the season 1-0 and the Golden Falcons suffered a loss to fall to 0-1. It was Malone soccer's first match on campus since September 6, 2017.

"I thought we had great effort all around, and it was such an amazing feeling to be back on campus," midfielder Amanda Kinsey said after the game. "It was nice to have so many fans out there to support us and to be on the field with my best friends."

The Pioneers controlled the ball for most of the first half and put early pressure on the Golden Falcons by producing four shots in the first 16 minutes. Felician's defense was "bend but not break" and did not allow a goal in the early going.

In the 18th minute, a Felician player was dealt a red card and the Golden Falcons played with 10 for the remainder of the match.

Malone took a 1-0 lead at the 29 minute mark when Amanda Kinsey snuck it through the posts after a scrum in front of the net. The Pioneers held that advantage to the halftime break.

The offensive barrage did not end there, as Malone got 10 more shots off in the second half. Goals were scored by Kirsten Hilty (84') and Danielle Lung (89') to make it 3-0 and secure the home victory.

Lung took five shots total, three on goal, and Hilty fired four total shots on the day, with three on goal as well.

Recording assists on the first goal were Natalie Martorana and Keeley Malley. Malley also put up three shots of her own, two of them on goal. Megan Fuller assisted on the second goal.

Haleigh Seman recorded one save on four shots and moves to 1-0 in 2019 as the goalkeeper. Defensively, Lindsey Soltisz, Brooke Lindenschmidt and Natalie Martorana were huge in preventing the Golden Falcons from getting any good looks at the net.

As a team, the Pioneers outshot Felician 20-4 and had seven corner kicks compared to two from the Golden Eagles.

The Pioneer women are on the road next week as they take on Wheeling on September 11 at 7 pm and West Liberty on September 13 at 7 pm.
