Malone Looks to Tackle Huge Conference Road Tests

The Malone University men's soccer team goes on the road this weekend for a pair of Great Midwest Athletic Conference matches that may set the direction for the season as the team heads deeper into conference play. On Thursday, September 26, the Pioneers travel to Vienna, West Virginia to face Ohio Valley and square off with Alderson Broaddus on Saturday, September 28.

Series History:
The Pioneers are 2-4-2 versus the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots all-time. Last season, Ohio Valley was ranked sixth in the country for NCAA DII and defeated Malone 2-0.
 
Malone has been stifled by the Alderson Broaddus Battlers since joining the G-MAC. Overall, the Pioneers are 0-9-1 against Alderson Broaddus. In 2018, the Battlers won the contest between the teams 3-2.

Malone is coming off a highly emotional game versus cross-town rival Walsh that ended in a 1-1 tie. The Pioneers look to regroup and get two huge wins in conference play.
 
As a team through four games, the Pioneers and opponents have been pretty even. Malone has scored four goals on 57 shots and opponents have also scored four goals on 58 shots. Corner kicks (22-21 opponents) and yellow cards (8-8) have also been fairly equal.
 
Sophomore Simon Eybert has taken a team-high nine shots for Malone this season. Nathan McFeaters has found the back of the net twice, including the lone goal against Walsh. Evan Dekker, Patrick Alvarez and Jake Martell have been impact players for the Pioneers as well.
 
Alexandre Durand has made 17 saves this season at the goalie position.

Record: 3-2-0 (1-1-0)
 
The Fighting Scots were G-MAC runner-ups last season, received an at-large bid into the NCAA DII Tournament, avenged the conference championship loss to Tiffin with a win in the NCAA Second Round, and ended up losing in the NCAA Quarterfinals to Fort Hays State.
 
In G-MAC play this season, Ohio Valley has lost to Findlay 2-1 and defeated Alderson Broaddus 3-0.
 
The Fighting Scots are averaging over 17 shots per game, putting them second in the conference behind only Findlay.
 
David Bercedo is fourth in the conference in goals scored this season with four. He has taken 15 total shots, along with teammate Juan Hoyos. Hoyos netted a game-winning goal in a 3-1 win versus Wisconsin-Parkside.
 
In limited minutes, Carlos Barcia has posted 11 shots for the Fighting Scots.
 
Goalkeeper Santiago Rojas has played all five games and has two shutouts.

Record: 1-3-1 (0-1-1)
 
The Battlers have yet to play on their home field in 2019 after going for five straight road matches to start the year. Alderson Broaddus will play Walsh in their home opener Thursday afternoon before the Pioneers come to town on Saturday.
 
Alderson Broaddus started their season by traveling to the defending conference champions Tiffin and the game ended in a scoreless draw. The Battlers lost at GLIAC opponents Northwood and Saginaw Valley State before winning at Seton Hill in the non-conference. In their last game, Alderson Broaddus lost to Ohio Valley 3-0.
 
Although against tough competition, the Battlers have a conference-low two goals on the season. They have taken 41 shots, compared to 91 by opponents.
 
Nevado Elliott scored the goal in a 1-0 win against Seton Hill and Ala Ramandan connected on the other Battler goal. Yannick Koffi leads the team with 14 shots taken.
 
Agostino Greco, Miro Diallo and Sebastian Meija are the team's leaders in minutes played.
 
Rafael Martins and Eduardo D'Avino have split time in net and each have 13 saves.
