Kent State Defeats Malone in Non-Conference Contest

The Malone University baseball team fell to NCAA Division I Kent State University 14-6 Tuesday evening in a non-conference matchup at Kent's Schoonover Stadium. The loss snapped a 10-game winning streak for the Pioneers, who dropped to 20-11 on the season. The Golden Flashes, last season's MAC Champions, improved to 11-14 in 2019.

Game Recap
The Pioneers fell behind early, giving up six runs in the first two innings, but put up a four-spot in the top of the third to trim the deficit to two. The Pioneers collected five singles in the inning, including RBI base knocks from Cade Mottice, Zach Mottice, and Matt Noel.

The Golden Flashes got all four runs back in the bottom half of the inning before Malone closed out its scoring with two more runs in the fourth. Kent State added three runs in the fifth and a final tally in the seventh while holding Malone scoreless over the final five frames.

Sophomore third baseman Clay Wisner recorded three of Malone's seven singles and scored twice. Zach Mottice, Cade Mottice, and Mitch Massaro all singled and scored while Tyson Gingerich added an RBI groundout.

The Pioneer pitching staff held Kent State to just eight hits (all singles) in the game, but 16 free passes and six hit batsman proved to be their demise.

Up Next
Malone will put its 10-game G-MAC win streak on the line this weekend with four games at the University of Findlay. The Pioneers and Oilers square off in the first of two doubleheaders on Friday, April 5th at 1:00 pm.
