Softball To Travel South For Pair Of G-MAC Doubleheaders

The Malone University softball team will continue Great Midwest Athletic Conference play this week with road doubleheaders at Kentucky Wesleyan College on Friday and Trevecca Nazarene University on Saturday

Series History:
The Pioneers are 0-6 all-time against Kentucky Wesleyan with all six meetings coming within the last two seasons.  Malone is 2-5 all-time against Trevecca.  Last season, the Trojans and Pioneers split their two meetings in Nashville with Trevecca winning the opener 9-1 before Malone bounced back with a 4-2 victory in game two.

Record: 9-5 overall, 3-1 G-MAC

-The Pioneers opened G-MAC action this week by winning three out of their four games against Lake Erie College and Ursuline College.  The squad will now look to carry its success on the road with two more conference twinbills
-Malone is batting .334 as a team this season and scoring 5.3 runs per game, which ranks second-best in the G-MAC in both categories
-Starting pitcher Kelsey Byers has had an outstanding start to her freshman year.  Byers has already registered three wins in the circle this week and is now 8-1 on the season.  Byers currently leads the G-MAC in wins and strikeouts (63).  She also ranks fifth in innings pitched (58.2)
-Kelsey's sister, sophomore catcher Bailey Byers, is also off to a great start to the season, having opened the year on a 14-game hitting streak.  Overall, Bailey is batting .480 on the season with two doubles, two triples, seven homeruns, 21 RBI and 12 runs scored.  She leads the G-MAC in slugging percentage (1.080), ranks second in homers, fifth in RBI and fourth in on-base percentage (.491)
-Centerfielder Madison Corrick has made an impact from the leadoff spot.  She ripped a game-winning single and a grand slam during Monday's doubleheader vs. Lake Erie.  On the season, the junior is batting .396 with six doubles, 19 RBIs, 12 runs scored and five stolen bases
-Freshman righfielder Erika Johnson is batting .400 on the season.  She has scored eight runs and tallied 16 base hits with a double a triple and six RBI
-Leftfielder Nicole Ferrara has tallied eight hits in the first four games of this week with two doubles, a triple and four RBIs.  On the season, she is batting .429 with seven runs scored
 

Kentucky Wesleyan Notes: Schedule | Roster | Statistics
Record: 7-12 overall, 0-2 G-MAC

-The Panthers have lost four straight and most recently (March 16) dropped a doubleheader at Trevecca Nazarene by scores of 2-1 and 8-7
-Kentucky Wesleyan is batting .266 on the season and ranks fourth in the G-MAC with a team ERA of 3.06
-The Panthers have four pitchers who have tossed 20 or more innings this season and all four have an earned run average under 4.00.  Autumn Grady has made six starts with four complete games.  Over 39.2 innings, Grady has posted a 2-3 record with 20 strikeouts and a 2.12 earned run average
-Infielder Jaylin Tidwell is leading KWC with a .410 batting average.  She has six doubles, two homers and shares the team lead in RBI with 12
-Outfielder Meredith Daunhauer, a First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region honoree in 2018, is off to a good start again this spring, batting .400 with 15 runs scored, two doubles, two triples and six stolen bases
-Infielder Lexie Mullen is batting .323 with two doubles, a triple, two homers and 12 runs batted in
 

Trevecca Nazarene Notes: Schedule | Roster | Statistics
Record: 13-8, 2-0 G-MAC

-The Trojans had won five of six before dropping a pair of games at Union University on Wednesday.  TNU will face Walsh University on Friday before taking on Malone on Saturday
-Trevecca opened G-MAC action last Saturday with a sweep of Kentucky Wesleyan.  The Trojans lead the conference in team batting average (.352) and runs per game (5.84) and rank second in stolen bases per game (2.0)
-Mary Collins is batting .472 on the season and leads the conference with 10 home runs and 28 RBI
-MaKray Odom, last year's G-MAC Player of the Year, has also been a key for the Trojan line up again this season as she is batting an incredible .613 with 29 runs scored and 21 stolen bases
-In 10 starts in the circle, Savannah Carr has posted a 6-3 record with a 2.64 ERA and 46 strikeouts
