The Malone University baseball team suffered two losses during a doubleheader on Saturday as Trevecca Nazarene University completed a 4-0 weekend over the Pioneers with 7-1 and 18-6 victories on a chilly afternoon at Jackson High School. With the sweep, Malone fell to 10-9 on the season and 0-4 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Trevecca, meanwhile, climbed to 10-8 overall and 4-0 in the G-MAC.

Game One Recap
Trevecca homered in the second, singled in two runs in the third, and then plated four unearned runs in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead over Malone and starting pitcher
Christian Specht (1-1). The reigning G-MAC Pitcher of the Week struck out five over five innings, but suffered his first loss of the season.

Malone scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth as
Zach Mottice delivered a two-out RBI single to score
Austin White.

Mottice and
Tyson Gingerich each finished with a single and a double to pace the Pioneer offense.
Chandler Stahl posted four strikeouts in two innings of scoreless relief.

Game Two Recap
After giving up a solo homerun in the top of the second, the Pioneers scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third.
Turner Hill drove in the first two runs with a single and later scored the third run of the inning on
Jacob Mottice's RBI base knock.

Trevecca erased the 3-1 deficit with a two-run homer in the top of the fourth, but Malone answered with a two-RBI single from
Josh Haygood in the bottom half of the inning to make it 5-3.

The Trojans went back in front with three runs in the top of the sixth before the Pioneers responded again, scoring the game-tying run on wild pitch in their half of the inning.

With the game still tied 6-6 with two outs in the top of the seventh, the Trojans broke it open with a three-run homerun which shifted all momentum in their favor. While Malone went down in order in each of the final three innings, Trevecca scored nine runs in the top of the ninth against four different pitchers before coming away with the 18-6 victory and the four-game weekend sweep.

Tyson Gingerich crossed the plate twice.
