Malone Baseball Blanked by Quincy

The Malone University baseball team suffered its second straight shutout on Saturday as a quality Quincy University team defeated the Pioneers 4-0 in a non-conference game on a wet turf at Prasco Park. With the loss, Malone dropped to 2-2 on the season while Quincy, an NCAA Tournament qualifier a season ago, improved to 5-1.

Recap
Starting pitcher Braun Miller (0-1) struck out seven and allowed three runs (two earned) over 3.2 innings in his 2019 debut. Tommy Walker gave up just one run and struck out four batters over a career-high 4.1 innings pitched and James Kontur worked a scoreless ninth. The three combined to allow just six hits, but Malone failed to get it going offensively, collecting only four hits.

Turner Hill, Austin White, Josh Haygood, and Tyson Gingerich all singled for the Pioneers. Stone King and Ivan Zamora both walked in their first collegiate plate appearances.

Up Next
Malone will head south to take part in the Rollins College Baseball Week in Winter Park, Florida over spring break. The nine-day, 11-game trip begins with a doubleheader against Davenport (MI) next Friday, March 1st.
