The Malone University swimming & diving teams wrapped up action at the Oberlin College Invitational on Sunday, the third day of competition. Both men's and women's teams earned top-4 finishes in deep and competitive fields.
Following Sunday's morning prelims and evening finals, the Malone women placed third among 13 teams, finishing behind only runaway winner Allegheny College and second-place Ashland. The men finished fourth overall among 12 schools, trailing only Penn State Behrend, Ashland, and Allegheny.
A total of seven swimming events were contested in Sunday night's finals, including 400 freestyle relay to end the meet. Diving events were held in between the prelims and finals.
Highlights
200-yard Freestyle
Macy Williams earned first-place points for the Pioneers, winning the A Final in a time of 1:55.06, the second-fastest mark in Pioneer history.
Abby Reynolds, the school record-holder, finished third in 1:58.20. In the men's A Final,
Brice Dixon placed second in 1:44.19. In the B Final,
Caleb Cosentino posted a time of 1:47.61, finishing 11th overall in the event.
100 Backstroke
Brittany Sheets was the lone Pioneer woman to reach the A Final, placing eighth in 1:04.09.
Nicole Kenny (1:04.77) competed in the B Final and finished 10th overall.
Kinsey Knoch (1:05.07) won the C Final. Leading the men were
Braydan Billman (59.88) in 15th place and
Cole Travis in (1:01.62) in 18th.
100 Fly
Denise Quentin earned an impressive victory, surpassing the field by over two seconds touching the wall in 56.59, and setting the
school record by two-hundredths of a second. She was joined in the A Final by
Danielle Ward, who placed sixth in 59.76. In the men's races,
Ezra Ferguson place 10th in a time of 54.05.
200 Breaststroke
In the men's races,
Fabian Loewe (2:16.02) placed sixth overall, competing in the A Final.
Bradley Bowers (2:25.08) won the C Final, trimming over eight seconds from his preliminary time. No Pioneer women entered.
100 Individual Medley
Nick Wertz won the men's event in a time of 54.43. He was followed by
Braxton Miller (57.41),
Samuel Rigdon (59.59), and
Adam Aziz (1:00.66) in third through fifth, respectively. No Pioneer women competed.
400 Individual Medley
Nick Wertz (4:14.96) placed third in the A Final and
Rhett Sanford (4:32.60) finished 16th overall, competing in the B Final. No Pioneer women were entered in the event.
400 Freestyle Relay
The women's relay teams continued their impressive performances this weekend, posting another victory in the event.
Denise Quentin,
Abby Reynolds,
Kinsey Knoch, and
Macy Williams put together a 3:32.74 winning mark, the
school record time in the event. The men's team of
Brice Dixon,
Ezra Ferguson,
Nick Wertz, and
Caleb Cosentino placed second with a time of 3:13.27.
Diving
Malone's
Corey Phillips placed fifth in the men's 1-meter dive, earning 281.55 points.
