The Malone University women's basketball team scored a season-low 33 points in a 57-33 loss to Ohio Dominican University Thursday evening in Columbus.
Although the defense played well once again, the Pioneers had over twice as many turnovers (22) as they did made field goals (10) in the frustrating defeat. With the setback, Malone dropped to 8-12 on the year and 6-8 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Ohio Dominican improved to 11-9 and 8-6 in the G-MAC.

Recap
Playing without starting point guard and leading scorer
Robin Campbell, the Pioneer offense struggled throughout the night. After a
Naomi Grandison layup gave Malone an early 2-0 lead, the Panthers answered with a 10-0 run.
Sydney Wentling's old fashioned three-point play with 2:15 remaining in the period accounted for the Pioneers' only other points in the frame.
Â
After trailing 12-5 after the opening quarter, Malone would not score its first points of the second quarter until the 3:27 mark when a reverse layup by
Ellen Doyle undwer the basket stopped another 10-0 ODU run and made it 20-7. Malone reached double digits at the 2:03 mark when
Chrissie Vaughan extended her streak of consecutive games with at least one three-pointer to 25 straight.
Â
Malone shot only 5-of-29 (17.2 %) in the first half, but the defense played well enough to keep it close despite the poor shooting. ODU made just 8-of-29 (27.6%) over the first two quarters as the score was 23-13 at the half.
Â
In the third quarter, Ohio Dominican began to pull away, using a 16-5 run to take a 21-point lead. Malone would score the next eight points to trim the deficit to 39-26 early in the fourth, but that was as close as it would get as ODU rolled to the 57-33 victory.
