Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Splits; Earns Shutout Victory in Game Two

The Malone University softball team split a pair of games on Wednesday at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Pioneers fell 3-1 to Ohio Christian University in the first game of the day. Malone would go on to shut out Glenville State University 5-0 in game two. The Pioneers moved to 4-2 on the season following Wednesday's contests.

Game One Recap

Ohio Christian got off to a hot start in the Pioneers' first matchup on Wednesday. The Trailblazers scored one run in the first and added two unearned runs in the second to take an early 3-0 lead.

The Pioneers would get on the scoreboard in the sixth inning. Bailey Byers singled to the shortstop and would go to second on a sacrifice bunt. Anna Myers knocked Byers home on a single to left field to shrink the gap to 3-1, but the Pioneers could not muster another run.

Alexis Burke pitched four innings in relief for the Pioneers, giving up three hits and no runs.

Bailey Byers and Anna Myers each went 2 for 3 in the contest. Myers had the lone RBI for Malone in the contest.

Game Two Recap

Glenville State threatened to take an early lead in the second inning. A pair of hits and a wild pitch put runners on second and third with two outs. However, Isabella Roberts denied the runners from reaching home by striking out her next batter. The pair of hits in the second would be the only hits for Glenville State in the game.

The Pioneers got on the board in the top of the fourth. Serena Tucciarelli got things going with a one-out single and Emily Beck followed with a double down the left field line. Tucciarelli scored on a single by Madison Corrick before Kendall Reidenbach brought home Beck and Corrick on a single up the middle, giving Malone a 3-0 lead.

Malone would expand its lead to 5-0 in the sixth inning. Emily Beck led off the inning with a single. Corrick reached on a fielder's choice, moving Beck to second. Reidenbach answered the bell once more, smacking a double down the leftfield line to score Beck and Corrick.

Reidenbach went 2 for 3 in the contest with a double and four RBIs. Reidenbach had just four RBIs in all of the 2017 season.

Emily Beck went 3 for 3 with a double in the game.

Isabella Roberts pitched her first career shutout. Roberts gave up just two hits in the game, which both came in the second inning. Roberts struck out six batters in the game as well.
