Malone Football Handed Defeat at Findlay

The Malone University football team suffered a disappointing 63-17 loss to the University of Findlay Saturday afternoon in Findlay, Ohio to fall to 2-7 on the season and 1-6 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The host Oilers, meanwhile improved to 7-3 on the season and 5-2 in the G-MAC.

Recap
In a game in which they allowed the second-most points in program history, the Pioneers held a 7-0 lead after scoring on the game's opening drive. A 31-yard run by Markell Stephens-Peppers helped set up a 2-yard touchdown run by Matt Blasiole.

The Pioneers' lead lasted only 91 seconds as Findlay needed just four plays to cover 65 yards and tie it at 7-7. Following a missed 48-yard field goal by Malone, the Oilers put together another touchdown drive to go up 14-7.

Malone answered with three points on its next drive when a 46-yard dash by Keon Singleton eventually led to a 21-yard field goal by Marcus Moeller, which cut the deficit to 14-10. From there, however, Findlay scored 49 unanswered points.

By halftime, the G-MAC's top-scoring offense had racked 432 total yards, including 323 yards rushing, and led 35-10. By the end of the third quarter, the Oilers led 56-10. They scored their final touchdown of the game early in the fourth quarter when a bad shotgun snap by the Pioneers was picked up by the Oilers in the endzone.

Late in the contest, Malone tacked on its final score of the game when Xavier Garland capped off an 8-play, 67-yard touchdown drive with a 1-yard scoring plunge.
