The Malone University women's basketball team dropped to 1-3 on the season after suffering a 64-53 loss to Seton Hill University in a non-conference contest Saturday afternoon in Osborne Hall. The Pioneers grabbed a 53-52 lead midway through the fourth quarter, but were held scoreless for the final 5:06 as the Griffins closed the game on a 12-0 run.

Recap
In a game that featured 12 lead changes, Seton Hill (2-1) grabbed a 16-15 advantage after one quarter as the Pioneers shot just 28.6% (6-of-21) in the opening period. Despite the poor shooting, Malone played well defensively throughout the contest and opened up its largest lead of the game late in the second quarter when
Mikayla Poole put the Pioneers in front 28-23 with a jumper in the paint. Â
Â
By halftime, Malone led 31-29. The Pioneers shot just 10-for-35 (28.6%) from the field, but stayed in front thanks to 10 offensive rebounds and nine second-chance points.
Â
In the third quarter, Seton Hill began to pull away and by the end of the frame led 48-41, but the Pioneers fought back to regain the lead just over two minutes into the fourth quarter. Back-to-back three-pointers by
Chrissie Vaughan from nearly identical spots on the right wing and an old-fashioned three-point play by
Ellen Doyle capped a 9-0 run which put the Malone ahead 50-48.
Â
After a free throw and a three-pointer put Griffins back up 52-50, Vaughan struck again from three-point range to give Malone a 53-52 lead. From there, though, the Pioneers missed their last seven shots while the Griffins secured their road victory with the game's final 12 points.
