The Malone University's women's soccer team lost by a final score of 2-1 at Kentucky Wesleyan College on Thursday evening.
The Pioneers statistically outplayed the Panthers but came up short on the scoreboard. The teams went into halftime deadlocked at 0-0. Once the second half started, Malone came out fast when
Kirsten Hilty scored her first goal of the season with help from
Danielle Lung's assist in the 47th minute.
The Panthers quickly responded in the 48th minute with a tally of their own by Breigh Haase to tie the score up again 1-1.
The Pioneers continued to apply pressure throughout the match with a 21-9 shot advantage, a 9-5 edge in shots-on-goal and a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. Malone's shots were off the mark and they were not able to contain Breigh Haase as she struck again in the 78th minute, notching the game-winner with her second score of the evening.
Malone utilized most of their roster and the players coming off the bench made a significant contribution to the Pioneers' offensive production.Â
Malone slipped to 2-7-1 overall and 1-7-1 in the conference with the defeat while Kentucky Wesleyan improved to 4-5-1 and 3-4-1 in G-MAC competition. With the win, the Panthers put themselves into the playoff hunt.
