G-MAC Men's Soccer All-Conference Team

Malone University freshman Patrick Alvarez was recognized on Wednesday night when the Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced its postseason men's soccer awards.

Alvarez, from Beamsville, Ontario in Canada and Blessed Trinity High School, was one of 12 student-athletes named to the G-MAC Men's Soccer Honorable Mention Team.

In his first season in a Malone uniform, Alvarez made an immediate impact as a defender and midfielder, tallying a pair of goals and an assist for a total of five points. 

Alvarez netted his first career goal during the Pioneers' 3-2 triumph at Lake Erie College on September 13.  He assisted on the game-winning goal during Malone's 1-0 win over the University of Findlay on September 27 and then scored his second goal of the year during the Pioneers' 3-2 victory at Kentucky Wesleyan College on October 4.

Alvarez and his teammates completed an impressive turnaround season for Malone in 2018.  After winning just one contest in 2017, first-year head coach Eric Reed led the Pioneers to a seventh-place finish in the G-MAC regular-season standings with a 6-10-1 overall record and a 6-7-1 mark in conference play.  Malone's six victories marked the program's highest win total since 2012 while the squad's 19 goals scored were the most in a single season since 2013.
