Malone controlled the ball for most of the contest, but it was Northwood that took advantage of its opportunities to score, taking the game from the Pioneers.
Kirsten Hilty netted the Pioneers' only goal in the contest. Hilty had five goals in her freshman season, the most goals of any of the returning players for Malone.
Danielle Lung, a freshman from Brunswick High School, assisted on Hilty's goal. Malone started five freshmen in their opening contest, accompanied by six returners.
