Three Malone University distance runners took part in the 5000-meter competition at North Central College's Keeler Invitational on Thursday evening.
George McCartney posted a time of 14:47.11 in the men's race for a 15th-place showing among 80 entrants. The performance was not only a new PR for McCartney, but it also ranked as the third-fastest 5,000-meter time in Great Midwest Athletic Conference history.
Rachel Wentworth and
Laura Tweedie each participated in the women's 5K. Wentworth placed eighth overall among 50 competitors after clocking a personal record of 17:28.66. The impressive time moves Wentworth up to tenth on the Pioneers' all-time list in the event and ranks as the fifth-fastest time in the history of the G-MAC. Tweedie, meanwhile, just missed her personal best by a fraction of a second, placing 20th with a time of 18:12.68.
The Pioneer track and field teams will be back in action again on Friday as Malone athletes compete at the Keeler Invitational, Allegheny College's Gator Invitational and the Grand Valley State University "2nd To Last Chance" Meet.
