The Malone University softball team split a double header with Davis & Elkins on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers won game one by a score of 6-2. The Senators won game two by a score of 10-4.

Game One Recap

The Pioneers were firing on all cylinders in game one.
Allyson Gruen picked up the win in the contest and
Isabella Roberts came in relief to pick up the save. As a hitter, Gruen went 3 for 3 in the contest and had 2 RBIs.

Davis & Elkins got off to an early start, scoring one run on two hits and a Malone error in the first inning. However, the Pioneer defense settled down and kept the Senators off the board again until Morgan Tandarich hit a solo shot in the seventh inning.

The Pioneers put up four runs in the second inning to take an early 4-1 lead. The Pioneers had three hits in the inning, while Davis & Elkins had two errors in the inning. The inning was highlighted by back-to-back doubles by
Allyson Gruen and
Taylor Lauer.

The Malone bats stayed hot in the third inning, scoring two more runs on four hits. Gruen and Lauer came through with runners in scoring position again, hitting back-to-back singles to score
Emily Beck and
Madison Corrick who each singled earlier in the inning.

Game Two Recap

The Pioneers carried over their success from game one into the first two innings of game two, taking an early 4-0 lead.

Malone scored one run in the first inning as a single by
Anna Myers brought home
Maria Mokler. The Pioneers added on three runs on five hits in the second inning.

Davis & Elkins put up a fight in the top of the third inning. The Senators scored two runs on three hits and two errors by the Pioneer defense. With two outs and the bases loaded, Sydney Turner hit a shot to deep center field, but
Madison Corrick preserved the Pioneer lead with a spectacular diving catch to end the inning.

The Malone and Davis & Elkins' offenses remained quiet until the top of the sixth inning. The Senators were able to load up the bases without getting a hit, due to a lead-off walk and a pair of Pioneer errors. Brittany Wade then stepped up to the plate and hit a grand-slam to give Davis & Elkins a 6-4 lead.

The Senators added on four more runs on five hits in the seventh inning to secure the 10-4 victory over Malone.
