Pioneer Softball Returns to G-MAC Play

The Malone University softball team will resume conference play this week against Ursuline and Davis & Elkins. The Pioneers take on Ursuline in a double-header on Wednesday before facing Davis & Elkins in a four-game series on Friday and Saturday. All games this week will be played at home.

  • The Pioneers broke out of a hitting slump on Tuesday, scoring 14 runs on 21 hits in two games against Ohio Christian.
  • Maria Mokler went 4-7 from the plate in yesterday's double-header. Mokler, the Pioneer leadoff hitter, is leading the team with a .388 batting average.
  • Shelby Hulin, who went hitless in her first five games of the season, has gotten at least one hit in five out of the past six games, raising her batting average to .300 on the season. The Pioneers have seven players who are batting .300 or better.
  • Emily Beck had her fifth multi-hit game yesterday, going 3 for 4 in game one against Ohio Christian. Beck is leading the team with 15 RBIs and is hitting .333 on the season.

  • The Arrows started conference against Alderson Broaddus in a four-game series. Alderson Broaddus won two games, 3-0 and 1-0, and Ursuline won two games, 10-2 and 9-4.
  • Last week Ursuline swept Ohio Christian in a two-game series by scores of 6-1 and 4-1.
  • Kaitlin Krajcik, the senior catcher for the Arrows, is leading the conference with a .481 batting average. Krajcik has two homeruns and six doubles on the season.
  • Brittany Humbel and Gina Rosshirt carry the majority of the workload for Ursuline. Humbel has a record of 4-5 and an ERA of 2.43. She has struck out 73 batters in 69 innings of work this season. Rosshirt has a record of 3-4 and an ERA of 4.75. She has started eleven games for the Arrows and pitched 35 innings.

  • Davis & Elkins split a four-game series with Kentucky Wesleyan this past weekend. The Senators took games one and two by scores of 5-0 and 8-7. Kentucky Wesleyan won games three and four 6-1 and 5-3.
  • The Senators have five players hitting .300 or better, led by Alyssa Cairns. Cairns is hitting .385 in 22 games this season.
  • Allie Lapallo carries the load for the Senators in the pitching circle. Lapallo has a record of 7-8 on the season and an ERA 3.63.
