The Malone University softball team dropped a pair of games against Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday afternoon. The Panthers took a tight game one by a score of 3-2 before beating Malone 9-1 in five innings in game two.

Game One Recap

Both offenses were being held in check for the majority of the first half of game one on Friday. Kentucky Wesleyan scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning on a two-out single by Jamie Tempel. The Panthers added on two more runs in the fifth to take a 3-0 advantage over the Pioneers.

The Pioneers started the sixth inning off with a leadoff single to centerfield by
Maria Mokler. With runners on second and third and two outs later in the inning,
Ashley Beck came through with an RBI single to right field, scoring two runs. However, Malone was unable to continue their rally back and fell 3-2 in the contest.

Kentucky Wesleyan struck first in game one. A double from Jamie Tempel to right field scored Meredith Daunhauer from second for the early 1-0 lead.

Malone answered back with a run of their own in the top of the second. With the bases loaded and two outs,
Madison Corrick delivered with a single through the left side that scored
Ashley Beck.

Kentucky Wesleyan regained their lead in the bottom of the second inning, this time for good. Maddie Dawson hit a single to left center that scored two runs for the 3-1 advantage.

The Panthers ended the game early in the sixth inning, scoring six runs on five hits and a Pioneer error for the 9-1 victory. Kentucky Wesleyan had a double to begin the inning, a double to end the inning, and three singles in between. Â Maddie Dawson's double scored three runs to end the game early.
