Malone Visits Salem International for Non-Conference Contest

Mackenzie Storlie has 19 points, 14 rebounds, nine assists, and six steals in 42 minutes across the last three games.

The Malone University women's basketball team will look to extend its four-game winning streak this Tuesday, February 14th when it travels to play Salem International University in a non-conference affair. The Valentine's Day showdown will be the first of three games for the Pioneers this week.

  • In the win over SIU in December, Hannah McCue, Rachel Goddard, and Baylen Dyrlund each scored 12 points while freshman Dani Dray notched a season-high 11 to lead Malone.
  • Most recently, the Pioneers picked up a pair of victories over Ohio Valley (84-42) and Cedarville (74-52) last weekend using a relentless pressure defense and clutch three-point shooting.
  • Freshman Holly Groff scored a season-high 15 points to lead the Pioneers over OVU. She followed that up with a 12-point performance over Cedarville. For the week, Groff shot 8-of-9 from the field, 6-of-7 from three, and 5-of-6 at the free throw line.
  • McCue led the Pioneers with 19 points against Cedarville. She has led the Pioneers in scoring nine times this season and is averaging 15.3 a game. She also leads the team in rebounds (9.5 rpg) and ranks 8th in the nation in defensive rebounds per game (8.1).
  • Goddard has led the Pioneers in scoring five times this season and is averaging 14.6 ppg. She also leads the team in assists (4.8 apg) and remains 4th in the nation with a 3.28 assist-to-turnover ratio. Goddard has shot 60% (9-for-15) from three-point range over the last four games.
  • As a team, Malone knocked down a season-high 17 threes on 34 tries in the win over Ohio Valley. The 50% mark tied a season-high set previously against Salem International.
  • Mackenzie Storlie scored a career-high 10 points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting from three-point range in the win over Ohio Valley. Over the last three games, Storlie has nine assists and six steals while averaging 14 minutes per game.
  • Storlie, Groff, and the rest of the Malone bench should see extended playing time on Tuesday against a Salem International squad that is being outscored by an average of 22 points a game.
  • Malone is 7-4 in non-conference games this season.

  • The Tigers enter Tuesday's game scoring just 53.1 points per game. Over the last two games, however, they have averaged 79.5 in a pair of close losses.
  • In their most recent game last Monday, Salem International overcame a 13-point fourth-quarter deficit to G-MAC member Davis & Elkins to force a late tie. D&E eventually scored the final six points to pull away with a 74-68 win.
  • Jiahna Flood-Francis led the Tigers with 16 points in the loss. On the season she is scoring a team-high 13.1 ppg and leads the squad with 51 steals
  • Keishla Gilmore is netting 11.0 points per game and leads the team with 67 assists. She led the Tigers with 15 points in their loss to Malone earlier this season.
  • Salem Int'l is just 3-30 at home over the last three seasons.
