Pioneers Cruise To 89-68 Triumph Over Central State

The Malone University men's basketball team shot 50% from the field and knocked down 15 three-pointers in a convincing 89-68 home victory over Central State University on Wednesday evening.

The Pioneers used an early 9-0 scoring run to build a 22-10 advantage.  Malone went to the locker room holding a 40-27 lead and then pulled away over the final 20 minutes, extending their advantage to as many as 35 points.

Malone improved to 2-1 overall following the non-conference win while the Marauders fell to 0-3.
 
Game Highlights
-Malone shot 53.6% from three-point range, hitting 15 of 28 attempts from long range.  The impressive performance marked the Pioneers' highest percentage from beyond the arc since January of 2016 when the team drained 10 of 17 (58.8%) three-pointers in an 86-85 overtime victory at Wayne State University
-Overall, Malone converted on 33 of 66 attempts from the field and eight of 11 (72.7%) free throws
-The Marauders shot 35.8% (24 of 67) from the field, 34.8% (eight of 23) from three-point range, and 54.5% (12 of 22) from the foul line
-Central State held a slim 41-40 edge on the boards, including a 17-9 edge on the offensive glass
-Malone dished out 22 assists on its 33 made baskets
 
Malone Individual Highlights
-Guard Nate Sheppard poured in 25 points by hitting 10 of 15 field goals, including four of his eight three-pointers.  He also made the only free throw he attempted.
-Guard Jaret Majestic tallied 18 points, all on three-pointers.  The freshman went six of seven from long range and also grabbed four rebounds in 21 minutes
-Guard Daylan Haynie added 14 points, five assists and two steals
-Guard Ty Jordan notched 12 points and five assists
-Forward Mitchell Spotleson registered five points, eight rebounds and three assists
-Forward Djuro Pantos added four points, seven boards, three assists and one block
 
Central State Highlights
-Forward Chris Scott posted a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds
-Forward Frank Barber III tallied nine points, eight rebounds and four steals
Guard Javon Stovall registered seven points
