Volleyball Falls to Lake Erie in Regular Season Finale

The Malone University volleyball team was swept for just the fifth time this season and the second time in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play, falling to Lake Erie College 17-25, 15-25, 23-25 Saturday morning in Painesville. With the loss, Malone dropped to 18-12 overall and 12-6 in the G-MAC.

Recap
The Storm opened the match on a 5-0 run and never looked back in the opening set on their way to avenging an early season loss to Malone. The Pioneers closed to within three points on three separate occasions in the frame, but failed to overcome the deficit as Lake Erie compiled 21 kills and a .378 hitting percentage. The second set was back forth early on before Lake Erie took advantage of a 6-0 run midway through to pull away for the 2-0 lead.

The third set played out similarly to the second as Lake Erie turned a 15-14 edge into a 22-15 lead with a 7-1 run. Malone narrowed the score to 24-23, but the G-MAC East Division Champions, who collected 51 kills in the match, closed out the sweep with a kill.

Malone was led by Hannah Eliason, who collected 10 of Malone's 35 kills. She recorded a career-high .769 attacking percentage, needing just 13 swings to reach double-digit kills. Faith Lau added nine kills, while Veronica Gehring chipped in with seven. Cathryn Miller had a team-high 14 assists. Elizabeth Selleny contributed 12.

Defensively, Maggie Hamrock tallied a team-high 10 digs. Lau added eight digs while Eliason had two blocks.
