Archived Broadcasts

The Malone University volleyball team won its season-opening match over Notre Dame College (OH) on day one of its own Hall of Fame City Challenge Friday, but was bounced in the day's second match by Ohio Dominican University in three sets. The Pioneers will be back in action with two more home matches on Saturday.

Malone survived a scare in the opener, needing a come-from-behind effort in the fourth set to secure a tightly contested 27-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23 victory over Notre Dame. Mallory Adams set a career-high with 18 kills, Veronica Gehring recorded 12 kills, and Haley Kool tallied 11 kills as the trio combined for a .344 attacking percentage. Adams' .382 mark tied the second-highest single-game average in her young career. Freshman Hannah Eliason made her debut with 10 kills while setter Cathryn Miller finished the match with 48 assists.

Senior libero Lynsey Trusty led Malone's defensive effort with a career-high 20 digs. Maggie Hamrock contributed 16 digs, while freshman Sydney Black chipped in with 12 digs in her collegiate debut. Haley Kool added three blocks to her strong offensive outing.

For the Falcons, Melissa Maczuzak, younger sister of former Malone great Elizabeth Maczuzak, led the way with 18 kills and 16 digs as teammate Mary Kate McHugh had her own double-double with 14 kills and 21 digs. Freshman libero Ali Kaeberlein totaled a game-high 27 digs.

In the nightcap, Ohio Dominican made quick work of the Pioneers, limiting Malone to just 23 kills in a 25-10, 25-22, 25-17 triumph. Malone committed 33 total errors in the three-set contest.

Mallory Adams once again led the offensive charge with seven kills while Haley Kool notched five kills. Setter Cathryn Miller provided 18 assists.

Defensively, Lynsey Trusty collected a game-high 16 digs. Miller added seven digs while freshmen Faith Lau chipped in with six.

Tory Thompson led the Panthers with a team-high 12 kills and 14 digs.
