Mt. SAC Day One Recap
The Malone University track & field teams wrapped up a busy weekend of competition on Saturday evening. The Pioneers sent athletes to the Mt. San Antonio College Relays in Walnut, California, the Bucknell University Classic in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania and the Walsh University Invitational in North Canton.
For the fourth time this season,
Duke Taylor broke the Pioneer school record in the hammer throw, launching a heave of 183' 7.94" on Friday at Malone's track. The performance marked an over two-foot improvement on Taylor's previous personal-best – a toss of 181' 5.2" that he registered last weekend at the University of Mt. Union's John Homon Open.
Taylor also won the discus competition on Saturday at Walsh with a toss of 176' 2.57".
At the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday evening,
Hannah Campbell competed in the 5000 meters and placed 35th among an elite field of runners with an NCAA Division II National Championship provisional qualifying time of 17:14.35.
Ashton Dulin won both the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles at the Walsh Invitational on Saturday. His time of 14.67 seconds in the 110 hurdles broke the Walsh Invitational meet record and places him sixth on the Pioneers' all-time performance list in the event. Dulin also climbed to second all-time at Malone in the 400 hurdles with an impressive time of 53.72 seconds.
Erika Rector won the 800 meters at Walsh with a time of 2:13.78 – her best outdoor performance in the event so far this season.
Crystal Barber placed first in the 200-meter dash at Walsh in 25.20 seconds while collecting a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.25 seconds.
The Women's "A" 4 x 400-meter relay team of Barber,
Katie Grimes,
Hannah Boss and Rector also crossed the finish line first with a mark of 3:58.88.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Boss was second in 15.08.
Kelsey Veldhuizen was third at 15.83,
Corrina Ruffener was sixth at 16.71 and
Carly Woodruff was seventh at 17.19 seconds.
Boss also placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.02 while Ruffener was fourth at 1:14.55.
Jaylyn Vance finished runner-up in the triple jump with a mark of 33' 6.36".
Paiten Strother and Vance placed third and fourth, respectively, in the long jump. Strother registered a mark of 17' 3.87" while Vance was right behind at 16' 8.39".
The Pioneers' 4 x 100-meter relay team of Veldhuizen, Barber, Strother and Vance earned a third-place finish with a time of 49.16 seconds.
A time of 19:24.16 earned
Erin Moomaw a third-place finish in the 5000 meters.
In the 400 meters, Grimes took fourth in 1:00.53.
Ashley Krieger was fifth in 1:00.91,
Emily Luli was sixth at 1:02.23 while
Emily O'Dell was seventh at 1:02.44.
In the javelin competition at Malone's track on Friday, Woodruff placed fifth with a heave of 95' 1.7" while Strother was seventh at 87' 7.97".
Ruffener's leap of 4' 5.94" was good for fifth-place in the high jump.

Mark Butler earned a second-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 14' 9.56"
In the 800 meters,
Brandon Simmons brought home a third-place showing with a time of 1:56.46.
Bradley Rammel followed in sixth with a mark of 2:01.28.
The Pioneers placed third and fourth in the 4 x 400-meter relay. The "A" unit of
Thomas Elton,
Marc Megenhardt, Simmons and Dulin posted a time of 3:27.96 while the "B" unit of
Matt Shoup,
Luke Murray,
Cordaryl Jones and
Brian Cassler was fourth in 3:29.46.
Shoup secured a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.56 while Elton was seventh in 57.68.
Megenhardt posted a fifth-place showing the 400 meters in a time of 51.53 seconds while Cassler was 10th with a time of 1:00.21
In the 5000 meters,
Andrew Currier was eighth with a time of 17:00.52.
Jones registered a ninth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 20' 0.16".
In the javelin competition at Malone, Cassler placed ninth with a toss of 100' 11.4" while Jones was tenth at 95' 8.4".
Rammel's time of 4:12.82 was good for 10th-place in the 1500 meters.
Bucknell Highlights
Lorne Strausbaugh placed 10th among 71 athletes in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:56.16 while
Deondre Martin was 46th at 4:04.78.
In the women's 5000 meters,
Mackie Keller placed 18th among 71 competitors with a time of 18:04.89.
Hannah Thompson was 20th in 18:06.24.
Laura Tweedie was 29th with an 18:28.08 showing ,
Jade Smith placed 33rd in 18:32.08,
Sarah Meek was 35th in 18:33.26 and
Rachel Koons was 44th in 18:47.87.
George McCartney paced the Pioneers in the men's 5000 meters, placing 20th among 112 entrants with a mark of 14:59.96.
Luis Carbajal followed in 26th with a time of 15:04.14.
Nate Boyer was 34th at 15:09.21.
Brett Cortelletti was 71st in 15:30.00 and
Spencer Ziegler was 81st in 15:36.59.
Up Next: The Pioneers will travel to the Ohio State University next weekend to take part in the Jesse Owens Classic.
