Former Malone University cross country and track & field standout
Tony Migliozzi surpassed the indoor marathon world record on Saturday at the Armory in New York City.
Migliozzi completed an incredible 211 laps on the Armory's 200-meter banked track in a time of 2:24:02, surpassing the previous world record of 2:27.21 which was set by Michael Wardian in Arlington, Virginia in 2010.
The 2013 Malone graduate was one of two male athletes to break the mark as Malcolm Richard, a school teacher from San Francisco, won the event in 2:21.55.
For Migliozzi, the event marked the second time in the last four months that he has garnered international distance running acclaim. In December, Migliozzi won the inaugural International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) 50-kilometer World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
A 2011 NAIA All-American in the marathon, Migliozzi also competed in the USA Olympic Marathon Trials this past February.
