Malone University cross country coach Jack Hazen was given the Lifetime Achievement Award last Friday night by the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches (OATCCC) at the annual banquet held in Columbus, Ohio.
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals who have given more than 100 seasons worth of coaching service in cross country and track at the collegiate and high school levels. Hazen recently completed his 101st season this fall after leading the Malone men's team to the NCAA Division II National Championships where the Pioneers finished 22nd. Inducted into the OATCCC Hall of Fame in 1990, Hazen becomes just the third recipient of the prestigious award.
In total, Coach Hazen has been in charge of the Pioneer cross country program for 49 years and on the track and field coaching staff for 48. Prior to his tenured run at Malone, Hazen coached at Mt. Vernon High School for three seasons of track and one of cross country. This fall will mark Coach Hazen's 50th year at the helm of the Pioneer cross country program.
