Malone to Welcome Carlow for Saturday Matinee

Chrissie Vaughan leads the team with 15 made threes this season.

The Malone University women's basketball team will play its final home game of the calendar year this Saturday, December 10th when Carlow University (PA) visits Osborne Hall for a matinee matchup at 1:00 pm. Following Saturday's contest, the Pioneers will be on the road for 10 of their next 11 games.

The two teams, who were both once part of the now-defunct American Mideast Conference (AMC) in the NAIA, have played on 13 prior occasions. Malone holds a 10-3 all-time advantage. The Pioneers defeated the Celtics 80-50 when they last met in 2011.

  • The Pioneers are coming off of a 76-58 road loss to Clarion on Wednesday that followed a 77-39 win over Salem International on Tuesday. After shooting a season-best 43.5% against SIU, Malone shot a season-worst 32.8% at Clarion
  • Additionally, Malone pulled down a season-high 50 rebounds in the win over Salem but was outrebounded by a 45-35 margin at Clarion.
  • Alaina Schwarz led Malone with 13 points on 5-7 shooting in the loss to Clarion. It was the second time in 25 career games that she reached double-digit scoring.
  • Hannah McCue also tallied 13 points in the loss and has reached double-digit scoring in all seven games since becoming a Pioneer. On the season, McCue is averaging a double-double with 14.1 points and 10.0 rebounds per game and leads the team with 17 steals.
  • Rachel Goddard, who has 47 career double-digit scoring games and 12 steals on the season, is checking in with 12.1 points per game. Despite shooting just 36.4% from the floor, Goddard is getting it done elsewhere, averaging career-highs in assists (6.0 apg) and rebounds (4.6 rpg). Through seven games this season, she continues to lead NCAA DII with a 6.0 assist-to-turnover ratio (42 assists, seven turnovers).
  • Baylen Dyrlund is the third Pioneer averaging double-digit scoring (11.6 ppg). After a red-hot start to the season, she has cooled down as of late, shooting just 30.8% over her last three games. Dylrund leads the Pioneers in free-throw shooting, making 81.8% (18-22) of her free throws.
  • Sophomore sharpshooter Chrissie Vaughan leads the squad in three-point shooting, making 41.7% (15-36) of her long-ball tries. Vaughan has netted at least two treys in each of the last six games.
  • As a team, Malone has made 65 threes on the season and rank 10th in the country with 9.3 made three-pointers per game.
  • The Pioneers enter Saturday's tilt against Carlow with a 9-3 record in their last 12 home non-conference games.

  • The Celtics are members of the River States Conference in the NAIA with dual affiliation in the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association). They are 3-0 on the road this season.
  • Carlow is coming off a 78-50 in over Penn State Greater Allegheny on Wednesday. The Celtics finished with a +40 rebounding margin (62-22) over an undersized Lions unit.
  • 6'1" Forward Emma Stille collected a team-high 21 points and 16 rebounds in the win. On the season, she is averaging a double-double with 11.2 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.
  • Guard Alexis Yanief is averaging 8.0 ppg while fellow guard Leah Goodwin checks in with 6.6 ppg and leads the squad with 22 steals
  • As a team, Carlow has recorded 86 steals and forced its opponents into 140 turnovers through seven games this season.
