Pioneers Defeat Davis & Elkins in Regular Season Finale

The Malone University volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with another big Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) victory on Saturday over Davis & Elkins College Saturday in Elkins, West Virginia.

Fresh off a five-set postseason-clinching win over Alderson Broaddus on Friday night, Malone captured the first from the Senators 25-23 to take an early 1-0 lead. In the second set, the Pioneers came out flat, tallying just three kills while committing seven attack errors in a 9-25 loss. The Senators hit .480 in the frame while Malone hit -.054.

Coach Tanya Hockman's squad made the necessary adjustments in the third set and opened up a 13-3 lead before closing out the set with a 25-13 victory. In a tightly-contested fourth set, the Pioneers saw themselves down by as many as four points, but battled back to close the gap. Trailing 22-23 late in the set, two kills by Faith Lau and another by Hannah Meckstroth gave the Pioneers the four-set triumph.

Lau led Malone with a career-high in kills (15) and digs (14). Mallory Adams, fresh off a triple-double performance on Friday posted 14 kills, eight digs, and four blocks. Veronica Gehring and Haley Kool recorded nine and eight kills respectively. Cathryn Miller accounted for 37 assists to go along with her three blocks on defense.

Lynsey Trusty paced the Pioneers with 19 digs while Sydney black added nine digs. Black and Maggie Hamrock each collected a pair of service aces.
