A day after winning its first-ever G-MAC match Friday night, the Malone University volleyball team registered a season-low 23 kills in a three-set loss to Cedarville University Saturday afternoon on the road. While Malone struggled offensively, the Yellow Jackets had no problem whatsoever, hitting a robust .442 with 44 kills and just six attack errors in the 25-11, 25-10, 25-22 victory.
Â
The Pioneers hit -.182 in the first set while Cedarville hit .500 to take a 1-0 advantage. The hosts fared even better in the second set, hitting .524 to Malone's .150. The Pioneers led by as many as four points in the final set, but the Yellow Jackets attack once again proved to be too much as they rolled to the straight sets sweep.
Â
Veronica Gehring led Malone with eight kills and a .438 attacking percentage.
Hannah Meckstroth added four third-set kills. Setter
Tori Hall contributed 21 assists while libero
Lynsey Trusty led the defense with eight digs.
Â
Malone will return to the court next weekend in Aurora, Illinois for the GLIAC, GLVC, G-MAC Crossover Tournament. Opponents and match times will be determined early next week.
