The Malone University women's basketball team dropped to 5-8 on the year and 2-6 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) after scoring a season-low in an 89-42 loss to Grand Valley State (10-4, 5-3 GLIAC).

The Lakers, coming in ranked third in the nation in made three-pointers per game (9.8), connected on four threes in the first five minutes of the game and opened up a 23-7 advantage before Malone junior Mackenzie Storlie drilled a three of her own.  GVSU would extend the lead to 27-12 and finished the first quarter shooting 76.9% (10-13 FG, 5-9 3PT).

Grand Valley stretched its lead to 32-14 before a 7-0 Malone run capped off by a Chrissie Vaughan three cut the deficit to 11. The Pioneers, however, would never get any closer as the Lakers continued their red-hot shooting, taking a 45-27 edge into the locker room. GVSU shot 17-of-26 (65.4%) from the floor and 7-of-13 (53.8%) from long range in the first half while the Pioneers shot just 9-of-23 (39.1%) from the field and 3-of-10 (30%) from downtown.

The rout was on in the second half as Grand Valley forced Malone into 13 turnovers and held the Pioneers to just 21.1 % (4-19) shooting including 0-for-5 from deep. The Lakers hit six more triples and outscored Malone 44-15 in the final 20 minutes as both coaches emptied their benches. The 15 points was Malone's lowest scoring half of the season.
