Gameday Notes: Men's Basketball Takes On Ferris State and Grand Valley State

Senior forward Neil Gingerich collected seven points and seven rebounds at Hillsdale

The Malone University men's basketball team continues Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) play this week with games against NCAA DII #23 Ferris State University (MI) this Thursday, January 7th at 8:00 pm and Grand Valley State University (MI) this Saturday, January 9th at 3:00 pm.

  • Stone, who missed three games due to injury, has played in 72.7 % of Malone's games...had he played in enough games to qualify (a player must play in 75% of a team's games), Stone would lead all of NCAA DII in FG shooting percentage
  • Mitchell Spotleson, a 50% shooter from the field, is chipping in 13.1 tallies per night...Spotleson is 6th in the GLIAC with 7.8 rebounds an outing
  • Despite shooting struggles (4-30 FG, 2-19 3PT) over his last three games, Christian Graves is scoring 12.2 points a night and remains 2nd in the GLIAC with 30 made three-pointers
  • Point guard Jay Parker, who flirted with a triple-double (18 pts, 9 reb, 7 ast) in a 72-69 loss to Saginaw Valley on Saturday, is 9th in the GLIAC with 4.2 assists per game including 25 assists over his last four games

Ferris State Notes:
  • The Bulldogs, ranked 23rd in the most recent NCAA Division II National Poll, are averaging 79.1 points while allowing just 67.6 per contest
  • Ferris State leads the GLIAC in rebounds per game (43.1), assists per game (18.0), blocks per game (8.7), and opponents' field goal percentage (38.1)...FSU is currently 6th in NCAA DII in opponents' field goal percentage and number one in all of college basketball (NCAA DI, DII, & DIII) in blocks...Ferris has recorded exactly 13 blocks on four separate occasions
  • 6'10'' post presence Jared Stolicker is the GLIAC's 10th highest scorer at 17.2 points a night...the 2014-15 GLIAC All-Defensive Team Selection leads the conference in rebounding (10.4 rpg) and through 12 games, ranks 10th in the nation with 33 blocked shots
  • Senior Josh Fleming is providing 13.8 points and 5.7 boards per night....he is 4th in the GLIAC with 19 blocks

 Grand Valley State Notes:
  • The Lakers come to Canton scoring 77.6 points per game while allowing the second fewest points in the GLIAC (66.2)
  • GVSU features a defense ranked 2nd in the GLIAC in both opponents' field goal percentage (39.2) and steals per game (8.0)...in addition, the Lakers are first in the GLIAC and 11th in NCAA DII in rebounding margin (+8.4)
  • Leading scorer Luke Ryskamp is averaging 15.3 points an outing
  • Senior forward Ricardo Carbajal, who reached the 1,000 point milestone in the Lakers' last game, is averaging 10.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game
  • Ohio native Chaz Rollins (9.8 ppg) is 6th in the GLIAC in both rebounds per game (7.8) and total blocks (15)
  • Through 12 games, forward Trevin Alexander (8.4 ppg) and guard Aaron Hayes (9.8 ppg) have recorded 18 and 17 steals respectively
  • Grand Valley lost to Findlay 82-66 on Sunday...Hayes scored 13 points while Rollins added 12
