The Malone University women's basketball team lost at home Saturday afternoon to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference foe Findlay 78-53.
Findlay led 23-17 after one quarter and 44-30 at the half thanks in large part to the duo of 6'2" freshman Anna Hintz and 6'0" senior Margaret Wuebker who evenly split 26 points through the first two quarters. The Oilers out-shot the Pioneers 63.3% (19-30) to 31.0% (9-29), while scoring 24 points in the paint to just ten for Malone.
The Pioneers were hot at the start scoring in each of their first four possessions and opening up an early 10-4 advantage. Mackenzie Storlie and Rachel Goddard bucketed consecutive three-pointers to start the game but the Pioneers cooled off considerably, connecting on just two of 25 long balls for the remainder of the game.
The shooting struggles continued for Malone in the second half as the Pioneers started just 1-of-7 and finished 3-of-12 in the third quarter. The Oilers scored the first 8 points of the second half to open up a 22-point cushion. Rachel Goddard's driving layup with 2:38 left in the third cut the deficit to 19 points, but a basket by Wuebker quickly put the Oiler lead back over 20 where it would stay for the rest of the contest.
