Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Fast Start Not Enough as Pioneers Fall at Ohio Dominican

The Malone University women's basketball team dropped to 5-12 on the year and 2-10 in the GLIAC after coming up short at Ohio Dominican 82-59.

Malone began the game red-hot from the field, knocking down 9 of their first 12 shots and leading by as many as 11 points midway through the first quarter.  But after being down 17-6, Ohio Domincan responded with a 33-10 run, reversing an 11 point deficit into a 12 point edge going into halftime. The Pioneers finished 11-of 21 from the floor in the first two quarters including 5-of-10 from three but turned the ball over 17 times, leading to 21 ODU points.

Trailing by as many as 17 points early in the third, consecutive threes by Chrissie Vaughan, Alaina Schwarz, and Tara Schaffter helped Malone trim the Ohio Dominican lead to as little as eight but the Pioneers failed to narrow that margin for the remainder of the game. Cutting down on the turnovers, the Pioneers outscored the Panthers 24-22 in the third frame, but still trailed 61-51 heading into the final frame.

The 4th quarter belonged to Ohio Dominican as the Panthers' transition and interior offense proved to be too much for the Pioneers who managed just eight points. ODU rolled to an 82-59 final score and their 14th victory of the year.
